Senate Resolution 20
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE TUPELO HIGH SCHOOL GOLDEN WAVE BOYS SOCCER TEAM AND HEAD COACH DANNY PORTER FOR WINNING ITS SECOND STRAIGHT CLASS I STATE TITLE AND FOR ITS EXCELLENT 1998-1999 SEASON.
WHEREAS, the Tupelo High School Golden Wave Boys Soccer Team outlasted the Clinton Arrows team 2-1 in sudden-death overtime for the state Class I title; and
WHEREAS, this is the second consecutive year that Tupelo has beaten the No. 1 and previously undefeated team to win the state title; and
WHEREAS, Coach Danny Porter and Assistant Coach Ron Baer's team finished 15-4 with a 10-game winning streak and a Number 1 ranking atop The Clarion Ledger poll; and
WHEREAS, this year's squad was boosted by junior forward Jacob McCord, senior midfielders Curt Cockrell and Patrick Montgomery, senior fullback Ben Moore, and senior goalkeeper Will Carnell; and
WHEREAS, the Golden Wave Boys Soccer Team's roster is as follows: Will Carnell, goalie; Anderson Llewellyn, goalie; Preston Whittington, goalie; Adam Rabinowitz, forward; Patrick Montgomery, midfield; Bo Bain, fullback; Jacob McCord, forward; Justin Robinson, fullback; John Campbell, midfield; Joey Bingham, midfield; Ben Moore, fullback; Curt Cockrell, forward; Trey Wilemon, fullback; Lee McAlilly, midfield; Jaren Swann, midfield; Cullen Pollard, midfield; Jack Reed, fullback; Justin Carlisle, forward; Wilson Long, fullback; and Kyle Coffin, manager; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this fine group of student athletes, which has arrived as one of Mississippi's elite high school soccer programs and brings honor to its school, community and state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Tupelo High School Golden Wave Boys Soccer Team for winning its second consecutive state Class I title and for its excellent 1998-1999 season, and wish them continued success in future seasons.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Danny Porter, Principal Mac Curlee and Superintendent Mike Vinson on behalf of the team, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
